Deepika Padukone is an Indian film actress born on 5 January 1986 in Copenhagen, Denmark. She appears mostly in Hindi as well as Kannada and Tamil language. Her family later on moved to Bangalore, when she was eleven months old. Deepika Padukone is of Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmin origin, and her mother tongue is Konkani. Her father, Prakash Padukone is a retired badminton player of international repute, and her mother is a travel agent. Padukone also has a younger sister, Anisha, born on 1991.
Deepika Padukone attended Sophia High School in Bangalore and did her pre-university studies at Mount Carmel College, Bangalore. While in her school days, she had also played badminton at the state level. However, she was not keen on pursuing a career as a badminton player.
Deepika Padukone started her acting career through modelling. While in college, she pursued a career in modelling. She was spotted in a ramp competition in NLS , Bangalore. Over years, she has also modelled for various Indian brands such as Liril, Dabur Lal Powder, Close-Up toothpaste and Limca. And has been also the brand ambassador for the Indian retail jewellery show. The cosmetics company Maybelline has also made her its international spokesperson.
Awards achieved by Deepika Padukone
At the fifth annual Kingfisher Fshion Awards, where Deepika Padukone was awarded the Model of the Year. Shortly after that in the year 2006 she was selected as a model for the Kingfisher Swimsuit Calender and won two awards at the Idea Zee Fashion Awards such as Female Model of the Year and Fresh Face of the Year. Deepika Padukone was also chosen as the brand ambassador of Kingfisher Airlines and later Levi Strauss and Tissot SA.
In the year 2006, Deepika Padukone made her first debut in Kannada film. She later made a successful debut in Bollywood along with Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om and she earned her a Filmfare Best Female Debut Award as well as her first Filmfare Best Actress nomination. This movie was a great commercial success so far. In the later years, she was bagged with various other movies where her acting was given world wide appreciation.
In addition to acting, Deepika Padukone is also the ambassador of prominent brands such as Tissot, Sony Cybershot, Nescafe and Kingfisher Airlines.
As part of NDTV’s Greenathon Campaign, Deepika Padukone adopted Ambegaon, a village in Maharashtra that was adopted, that was facing a huge electricity crisis. In the year 2009, Deepika Padukone started writing weekly columns for HT City, the lifestyle supplement of Hindustan Times. She also appeared on the cover page of lifestyle magazine Vogue on May 2010 and 2011. She also shared the red carpet at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival.
